Grip Mats for Dice Games!

EVERY classroom has dice in it right?! There are soooo many awesome math games that you can play with your students to assist them in learning number concepts and many of them require dice. But...if there's one thing I can't stand, it's that 'CLUNK CLUNK' sound of dice being thrown across every table in the room. Maths sessions in my grade can be super noisy at the best of times, adding that hideous noise of dice banging on tables is a sure recipe to send you home with a headache!

So, I eliminate the problem using these.... Grip Mats!

These are actually drawer liners that can be found in your local $2 shop (cheap store). They usually come in a roll like this.

Simply roll it out and cut it into squares using scissors. I cut mine around 20cm X 20cm.

You will then need to MODEL using the gip mats and demonstrate to your children how to use them properly. The dice should be rolled on the grip mat and your hand can be used to catch it (like a soccer goal) at the other end.

I hope this handy Teacher Tip eliminates the headache factor in your grade!

Hello everyone! As some of you may know, or not, I'm (Stephanie) originally from the USA and moved over to Australia this past year. I have been working as a relief teacher, but I'll be starting as a FULL-TIME teacher in a Year 3/4 classroom starting term 3!

I started blogging as a teacher after moving to Australia and I found a few of my favourite Aussie bloggers, but I'd like to find more!

Down Under Teacher

This was the FIRST blog I came across that focused on the Australian teacher. Since I knew nothing about teaching in Australia and knew no teachers at the time, so I read up on her blog to get a taste of what it's like to teach in Australia. From there I found more and more Australian teacher bloggers!
